Not surprisingly, the trend for online learning has seen a huge increase in the wake of the current pandemic. The LEIA Distance Learning course has followed suit with a 55% increase in enrolments this September compared to the previous year. The pass rate has also now increased to 73%, a 9 point increase over exams taken in May 2020.
Dan Charlesworth, Training and Safety Manager at LEIA, commented: “It’s great to see that, despite the current climate, employers are recognising the importance of investing in training for their staff. We are also encouraged to see such a positive increase in pass rates – congratulations to all the learners!
“Now is the time to consider online training for your team, as the current conditions many of us are working in are conducive to learning. Our next semester begins in January and we are already seeing a high demand. We would encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch soon.”
The LEIA Distance Learning courses offer provides a technical training programme of study which aims to extend the candidate’s knowledge of lift and escalator engineering. It has been designed by, and for, the lift and escalator industry to address the difficulties created by a highly mobile workforce and the demands of changing British and European standards requirements.
Learners achieve two awards:
> Certificate of Unit Achievement issued by LEIA
> IOSH Certificate after MSH4 (Managing Safely)
There are three starts within the year; 2nd January, 1st May and 1st September.
Any unit can be started at these times (Half and Full). Distance learning is open to both LEIA members and non-members.
