As our July newsletter features, we have bid farewell to Terry Potter. The July Newsletter and the recent FOCUS 2017 give an excellent retrospective on Terry’s contribution to the industry over the last 26 years. We have welcomed Oliver Greening to LEIA who picks up many of Terry’s responsibilities and will also take over organizing LIFTEX 2019. As I now take over as Managing Director, this allows me to keep the technical role I have had since starting with LEIA. Oliver will help in many ways as we look to improve the services we offer our members – you might already have noticed a “refresh” to our website.
Our July newsletter answers some really important questions which have been raised as the withdrawal of BS EN 81-1 and BS EN 81-2 looms on 31 August. There will be no postponement of this. However, if the building works are delayed preventing the completion of a lift designed to BS EN 81-1 or BS EN 81-2 by 31 August, then there are issues for clients and lift installers. We cover this and offer solutions on page 3.
We hope these are of interest. As ever please let us know your comments and any issues which you feel we should cover.
The newsletter has a deliberate slant towards education and training issues with an update on the trailblazer apprenticeship on page 4. We are also looking for a lead tutor for the LEIA Distance Learning programme to take care of delivery and development of the next generation of LEIA distance learning.
